Interesting facts

The transmitter is located few hundred meters from Skalka ski center. You can get here from Kremnica along the castle  or you can follow the road from Kremnica mines leading along a well-known church located right in the middle of Europe.

The transmitter was put into operation in October 1960 and replaced TV transmitter on Krizna street. Employees of Tesla Hloubětín, national company produced and mounted the transmitter.   Antenna system was located on 300 metre high steel pipe mast.

In summer 1961 a strong storm took off the roof of the building of the transmitter and spread it all over the hill. In 1992 antenna extender with weight of more than 7 tons could not resist the strength of wind in freezing conditions and fell from a 300 meters height close to the object. The whole central Sloavakia was without television signal.

A mast of the same construction is in Dubnik in East Slovakia. A 300 metres high monopipe is held by 6 levels of threesome anchor cables. There is a lift inside going to the height of approximately 260 meters, and the ride takes for about 10 minutes.
